About NBAWF
The NBA Women Forum was established by the Nigeria Bar Association (‘the Association’) following approval for its establishment at the Association’s National Executive Council meeting held on 30th November 2006 in Bauchi. Officially inaugurated on 19th December 2006 by the President of NBA, Mr.Olisa Agbakoba SAN, the Women Forum aims at advancing and protecting the interest of female lawyers, promoting their mutual improvement and encouraging a spirit of friendship among members.
MISSION STATEMENT
To enhance the welfare, development and interest of female lawyers and women in general.
VISION
A humane, just, democratic society which protects and promote the rights of women.
OBJECTIVES
- To enhance the status, influence and effectiveness of women lawyers in Nigeria
- To promote efficient administration of justice and the improvement of law, especially as it relates to women.
- To encourage the participation of women lawyers in the activities of the Nigerian Bar Association, especially at leadership level.
- To work for equal opportunity and advancement of women in the study and practice of law
- To work for reform of the law and its administration, and for the advancement of society, particularly as it affects women.
- To work towards the preservation of the rights of women and elimination of gender biased conducts in the law legal profession as it affects women lawyers, litigants and persons employed in the legal profession.
- To advocate for an increase in the number of qualified women on the Bench and to work for improvement of the overall quality of the Bench.
- To enhance and promote the welfare of women lawyers and women in general, realizing that on women's well being depends the happiness of the home and strength of society.
- To advance opportunities for women in political, civil and educational fields as well as in industry, business and other professions.
- To recognize the contribution of women lawyers who have excelled in the profession.
- To honour those persons who demonstrate dedication to these goals and objectives.
- To create and maintain an endowment for the proper observance and discharge of the above objectives.
